Healing

Healing

4 Dec 2010

We believe in a God who heals. In Southampton, during the Worship Central Tour, we were wonderfully reminded of this. During the evening one of our team had a picture of a twisted spine which we shared from the front.

As we continued to worship and pray for people a young man approached the front clearly overwhelmed by what God had just done in his life.Four years ago Scott was in a nasty trampoline accident where he severely damaged his back. Since that day he's been in constant pain, with 14 trapped nerves down his back. The only solution was surgery. On Wednesday 10 November at Southampton's Central Hall, Scott was prayed for and the pain instantly left - the first time in four years. The following week he was due to have an operation on his back. Still with no pain he explained to the doctors what had happened. They did some X-rays and in Scott's words here's what happened next:

"As I said, I was due for an operation on Thursday 18th, so as scheduled I went in and explained to the surgeon exactly what happened. He X-rayed my back and shown on the X-ray my shoulder blades were perfectly inline with each other and there looked to be absolutely nothing wrong with any of the muscles down my spine. The doctor was speechless and he said that there is no way that that could be physically possible without surgery, so praise the Lord, for he is beyond our wildest dreams."

An amazing testimony to the power and wonder of our God - the God who heals. Scott's story is an encouragement and reminder that we should continue to pray for the sick and expect to see God heal. The challenge is will we stand on God's Word or our own experience.

God's Word says “…I am the Lord who heals you.” (Ex 15)

In Luke 9:1, we see Jesus calling the 12 disciples together giving them, ‘power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal those who were ill.’ In Luke 10:9 Jesus commissions the 72 saying, ‘Heal those who are ill and tell them, ‘the kingdom of God has come near to you.’ In Mark 16:18, Jesus in a post resurrection appearance said of those who followed him, ‘they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.’ Jesus has given us authority to heal the sick and has given us the Holy Spirit to do it.

I’ve been challenged by John Wimber’s words, that he’d rather pray for 100 people and 1 person get healed, than pray for no one and no one gets healed. We live in a broken world. We live in the midst of many unanswered questions. Why are some healed and others not? I'm not sure we'll ever really know the answers, but the call for us is to keep on praying. To keep on trusting and to keep on believing. These stories and breakthroughs of God at work, the Great Physician restoring bones and muscle are reminders that God's Kingdom is at hand. With God all things are possible!

i agree tim esp with the john wimber quote, the only thing that worries me is i dont think we really allow room for people to meet with God who dont get physically healed when prayed for tho.

its very easy for them to feel inferior in their faith or unloved by God.

Amen!

I've been to a huge healing sermon about a week ago and hundreds of people came for prayer for their ilness. Not everyone was healed. But I a while ago I heard a pastor say that 'it's not always the physical healing that counts'. People their soul can get healed while we are focussing on the physical healing. You can heal the body but it will still die later on, a healed soul will live forever!

Anyway I agree with you that we'll never be able to comprehend it and sometimes I must say I'm glad I don't.

@Gavin
The pastor at the healing sermon said that it would be great if every church had frequent healing sermons where there would be time to pray for them. Something that really struck me. It's really weird that we have lots of sermons to praise God and hardly no healing sermons or none at all. Whilst God sends us to heal his children..

God's bless

... let all the world know that Jesus saves!

Gavin

it sounds like their is a lot of truth in what you are saying, i would still love to know what you mean by it. break it down a little bit.

hi mrhatch,

i was at a festival once where people were being prayed for for healing. lots and lots of folks were getting physically healed and were encouraged to come to the front and give a tesimony about what God was doing. (this was great of course!) but sadly lots of others werent physically healed, people around me still had problems with their sight, ears, backs, etc, and whilst all the celebrating of God healing was being declared over the microphone the people not healed were feeling worse and worse about themselves.

does God not love me? will i ever be healed? they were saying.

it would have been great to have some acknowledgement from the front that even if you havent been healed God still loves you, has a plan for you, and further prayer offered to them to keep believing and trusting in God for the future, despite no observed change in physical problems.

make sense?

God bless,
gav.

Thanks Tim for this encouragement

Its so exciting to see glimpses of heaven touching earth as God comes and meets His people...

Thanks Tim for your inspirational words and music. x
I witnessed that healing in Southampton and experienced the Holy Spirit personally.
I once lived in darkness as an alcoholic and drug user; since turning my life over to Jesus Christ I not only live drink and drug free but feel I have been cleansed/healed from within. I now walk in the light and very often dance with pure joy as I listen to your music in worship- better than any drink or drug I ever took! God bless.X

Tim,
This post was such an encouragement to me. Thank you. My brother, who is only 19, has recently become very ill with something that doctors haven't been able to diagnose. Your music is pretty much all that he plays as a reminder to his heart to stay focused on the goodness and faithfulness of our God even in the midst of the storms of this life. His heart's passion is to sing to God, to praise and exalt Him with his voice. Thank you for the songs that you write that he can sing along with to to offer praise to God.
If there's a way that you could email or a send a message of encouragement to him during this dark time, I know that he would be so blessed.
