This months Tip-offs!
Just thought I’d post some of the music that is really encouraging my soul this month-
Brooke Fraser “Flags” – she’s the quintessential storyteller, and these short stories do not disappoint. This album reminds me of vintage ‘Jewel’ and ‘Joni Mitchell’ who were two of my most loved artists in high school. My favourite song is ‘Coachella’ (it’ll get you skipping down the street).
Adele “21” – wow, I only downloaded this album a couple of days ago but have already given it a workout. Its as soulful as comfort food from the deep south, moves like a gritty steam train, and has enough attitude and class to make you stand up the moment it walks into the room. My favourite tracks (too many to choose) but the ones I keep going back to are ‘I’ll be waiting’, ‘rolling in the deep’ & ‘someone like you’.
Alicia Keys “The Element of Freedom” – ok so I’ve always been a MASSIVE Alicia Keys fan. So much so that apparently my husband Jonathan caught me (years ago) in the middle of the night, chanting as I slept “I wanna be Alicia Keys, I wanna be Alicia Keys…”. I know its never going to happen but when I’m driving home from Team Night and ‘try sleeping with a broken heart’ is shaking the windows I AM Alicia Keys… Fav songs – ‘Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart’, ‘Doesn’t mean Anything’ & ‘That’s How Strong My Love Is’.
The Civil Wars “Barton Hollow” – this album is just as sweet played loud as it is soft. It’s gentle and enchanting. Love it. Reminds me of those Damien Rice type vibes. Beautiful lyrically as well as melodically. Fav songs – ‘Poison & Wine’ & ’20 years’.
Robbie Seay Band “Miracle” – only heard of this guy last week but really really love his songs, they really move, they have depth and really resonate with a spirit longing to worship. Sort of Starfield cross Train cross Brenton Brown. Fav song ‘Awaken my Soul’
Tim Hughes “Love Shine Through” – the album isn’t out until next month but I managed to get my impatient hands on a sneaky copy. So many great songs that you’ll love to sing in your home all week long, but also to lead in services on Sunday. It’s such a blessing when music helps you worship and songs speak to your soul reminding you of the truths that never change. This album does that. ‘Counting on your name’ is my most chosen song to lead at the moment & my album favs are ‘At Your Name’, ‘Ecclesiastes’. Also the vocal and choir work will make you want to stand up and shout!
Rend Collective Experiment "Organic Family Hymnal" – fun, raw, fresh, colourful and something to make you smile and worship at the same time! Fav songs ‘Come on my soul’ & ‘God is Near’ These songs have encouraged me to access the truth within again. Also worth checking out their music videos on you tube.
Hillsong United “Aftermath” – Brand new release, its ambient & pretty with loads of space - you can really feel the heart behind the music. Aftermath delivers the quality and substance that Hillsong is reputed for but this album is spoken in a new and exciting language. Fav songs – ‘Like an Avalanche’, ‘Aftermath’ & ‘Father’.
Also wanted to let you know about a great book I’m reading by a friend of mine – its called “Meet Mrs. Smith”, by Anna Smith. Anna is the intelligent, funny, warm and absolutely gorgeous wife of Delirious front man Martin Smith. If you met her you would never guess she has had six children, (yes you heard me right, SIX KIDS!) But honestly she is a living legend and an incredible role model for all women out there. The book will give you an insight on the crazy and wonderful life of the Smith family and the journey of Delirious band. This book is a real encouragement for us to keep running the race God has called us to.

Got to agree with the Brian Johnson - Love Came Down suggestion too. Their churches' new CD 'Be Lifted High' is brilliant. I think it can be found under 'Bethel Live'.
Also, Ascend The Hill have some great music out, especially their Hymns album called 'Take The World But Give Me Jesus' which you can get for free (or pay whatever you want) online. The hymns are especially good. It's powerful stuff.
And Jesus Culture if people haven't heard them yet, are amazing. I'm still being blown away by their CDs / DVDs.
